Sparking a Church Planting Movement

We are passionate about seeing our city flourish and know the Church has a vital part to play. We believe that continual planting of new congregations is a key strategy for the numerical growth of the body of Christ in Auckland; and for the continual corporate renewal of existing churches in our city.

In fact, we don't just want Auckland to flourish in this regard, we want to see all of New Zealand flourish!

In late 2023, we kicked off a nationwide church planting learning community. This will be a 2-year community, bringing together senior leaders from 13 groups (5 denominations and 8 churches). The aim is for each group to develop their own planting vision and robust plans; and that collectively, we foster a healthy culture of accountability towards church planting and multiplication across New Zealand. This is all about sparking a church planting movement

Over a series of multi-day in-person intensives, and group Zooms, the 13 groups are not prescribed by any particular church planting model. Instead, armed with resources and input from world-class practitioners, they are developing their own vision and models for planting in NZ over the next generation.

The first intensive took place in September. Feedback from a couple of leaders:

Really valuable! Reframed and deepened (my) passion for planting - more than I was expecting!

Brilliant - enjoyed the mahi and group work sharing together.

The 12 groups part of the learning community are:

  • Assemblies of God

  • C3

  • Crossroads Church

  • Doxa Deo

  • Elim Churches of New Zealand

  • Faith City

  • Gracecity Church

  • LifeChurch

  • Te Hāhi Mihinare o Te Tai Tokerau

  • The Street Church

  • The Well Church

  • Wesleyan Methodist Church of Aotearoa New Zealand

We are excited for the potential for Gospel growth across our nation!
